Matthew Glasscock was born on February 11, 1993. He was a
normal, active, playful and loving boy.
When he reached adolescence, however, he developed epilepsy. He never let that define who he was,
though and lived a normal life for the
most part. Matt was a die-hard gamer,
playing the games such as Zelda, Mario, Bioshock, Uncharted, and many, many
others. He also spent many nights
playing Mario Kart and Mario Party with his family. He was a writer. And he was very sensitive to people in need
of friendship. He had his seizures
pretty much under control for years but then they became stronger and more
frequent.
On May 31st, 2016,
Matt passed away from something known as SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in
Epilepsy) at the age of 23. We were
absolutely devastated, to say the least.
How could this boy with such a beautiful soul just be gone?
We were a family of gamers. Our family nights consisted of
playing Mario Kart or Mario Party. For
the longest time, none of us could even think about picking up a controller and
playing video games. It was just too
hard. But after a while we decided that
we needed to continue doing what Matt loved the most. We needed some way to channel our grief and
help others in the process. Corey,
Matt’s brother, decided to try live streaming some games that Matt loved to play
and in the process raise money for SUDEP awareness. And Moblins for Matt was created.
