It has been pretty quiet around here for quite a while (life has a tendency to demand all of your time,) but I wanted to put it out there that the engines are up and running again and we have some new things coming! A new stream event is entering the final planning stages, as well as another project that is on its way, so be on the look out for that.
I figured I would also take the opportunity to talk a bit about the Nintendo World Championship.

First and foremost, I didn't win, but it was a good time. I met a lot of great people, including participants and the Nintendo team, and had the chance to play Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Mario Odyssey between the 20 billion rounds of Mario Kart 7 I played over 2 days.
The aforementioned "great people." |
I won't go into great detail about either game, since there are reviews aplenty for both by writers much more talented than I, but to confirm: they are just as great as everyone says and you should buy them both. Metroid: Samus Returns releases on 3DS on September 15th and Super Mario Odyssey launches on the Switch on October 27th. Seriously, super good.

Anyway, overall I came in 3rd. I was pretty happy with my time though, it was pretty much on par with what I was able to hit in practice runs:
Gaaaaaaaah!! So close! |
I held onto first for the better part of the last day, but alas, it slipped away as the more skilled players arrived.
I'm not bitter, you're bitter!! |
I did come away with some pretty awesome posters and an unyielding and immense hatred for Bowser's Castle 1 in Mario Kart 7. I am not exaggerating when I say I likely played that course 5000 times. Mario Kart 7 is a great game, but let it be known that I have not ever played another level in that game, picked it up for the first time when the Championships were announced, and it is incredibly likely that I will never pick it up again.
Be jealous. |
I also have to give a shout out to Annie. She was the one who demanded we go to Minneapolis for the qualifier, patiently sat next to me while I practiced every spare second I had, listened to me babble on about strats and lap times, and held an umbrella over me to block the sun while I practiced in line at the qualifier. You would have seen her there running around to get water, hold my stuff, grab energy drinks, and cheering me on the whole way. She is awesome and I can't thank this beautiful lady enough.
So that's it for now. Be on the lookout for a stream announcement in the VERY
near future!
